Marking a significant milestone, the European Software Institute – Center Eastern Europe (ESI CEE) hosted the “Back to the Cyber Future II” Conference https://www.b2cf.eu to celebrate its 20-year journey in advancing the ICT/software industry in Eastern Europe, on May 22, 2024, at Sofia Tech Park, Cybersecurity Lab. In his keynote talk, Dr. Paul Nielsen (CEO of Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University) “AI and Cyber: The Beat Goes On” shared insights into the dynamic relationship between AI and cybersecurity.

At the closng panel discussion moderated by George Sharkov “CYBRID Warfare – Rocket Science or the New Reality”, Paul Nielsen said that AI is still in his childhood and we need to be careful about the coming teenage ages. All other panelists – Todor Tagarev, Wim Mees, Pavlin Dobrev, Gabriel Raicu, commented on how AI and new technologies are reshaping the cyber/hybrid warfare with a particular accent on the hashtagCognitiveWarfare as the human mind became the most critical infrastructure.
The presenters covered various aspects of cybersecurity, resilience and AI, including:
📌Muhammad Azmat – The Innovation Paradox: How AI-Enabled Cybercriminals are Threatening Small Businesses and their Supply Chains
📌Matteo Merialdo – Advancing Cyber Ranges: From Traditional Models to Hybrid, Federated, and OT-Integrated Systems
